After Dato Yusof and Norazlina Redzuan’s akad nikah and reception in Perlis, the newly weds came down to KL. Their KL wedding reception was held on Friday, August 29th 2008 in Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.
Friday night, with a drizzle to top it off. Traffic was certainly an issue. It took me almost an hour to travel 1km from my house in Ampang Jaya to the Flamingo traffic light.
In the end, I used the right lane, when there were no incoming traffic of course, to go on the AKLEH via the entry beside Petronas. We managed to reach the venue at about half past seven. Plenty of time to spare.
The first thing I noticed was the long registration counter. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a registration counter for a malay wedding reception. But then again, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding reception like this before.
A couple of Malaysian royalties were present that night – Her Royal Highness Raja Perempuan Perlis and Tengku Mahkota Pahang. Quite a number of VIPs were also present. Among them were the FAM and TV3 big guns. Nona crew was there too doing their interviews and what nots.
A. Samad Said presented a piece of his creation for the beloved couple. His presentation was backed up by the tunes of Mohram. As the guests were being served dinner Joanne Yeoh appeared and mesmerized the crowd with a few tunes from her violin.
At the end of the reception, the bride and groom, spent quite a while at the entrance of the ballroom to receive well wishes from the guests as they leave the ballroom. This alone took about an hour I think. Imagine, having to shake hands and take photos with about 800+ guests. Yes, there were about 800+ guests that night, judging by the total number of tables in the ballroom.
I think both the bride and groom must have been pretty spent after that one hour ordeal at the entrance.
Finally, all the guests have left. I thought that was it. To my surprise, there was another late night session for close relatives. Another poco poco session.
Wow.. I am truly impressed with the stamina of the two bride and groom, especially Alin. Both my feet was already aching at that point after standing and walking around in the ballroom through out the night. All I can do then was sit down and enjoy the late night supper and watch the others do the poco poco. I have to admit.. they were good. They certainly know their poco poco steps.
Want a peek at the event that night? I’ve got them up on my Wedding Albums on PicasaWeb. I have yet to collect and compile photos from the other family photographers. Will update when I get to compile their photos together.
