I usually avoid writing reviews for products, but in this case I’ll make an exception. I bought this back in June 2009 after seeing my significant other purchased one, looked great and all. Worked perfectly and it became my primary drive for music playback while at the same time backing up any new data on my Western Digital 500GB HD. Thank god I did. Two days ago in the morning I noticed the light on the Toshiba HD was turning off for 30 seconds at a time which precluded me from successfully syncing new files with my Zune. I left it alone for twenty minutes, and tried to go back to it again to see if it was working properly now. Lo’ and behold, the laptop wouldn’t recognize it anymore, and neither would 2 other laptops in the house. An attempt at HDD recovery got stuck at 48%, so all I am left with now is a dead hard drive. Luckily everything is backed up on my WD Drive. Won’t even bother to try and get my money back. Will never buy another Toshiba product again. Fair warning to anyone else using this external HD as their sole mode of backing up data.

This was priced $20 less than western digital and I brought this one. On many occasions, I had to spend lot of time to realize that harddisk was causing problems while copying larger files (over 20 GB each file). When I was able to coping successfuly (without corrupting them), the system would go haywire when opening them. I’m not going back to Toshiba hard disk.

Excellent backup device, only issue I had with it, was when you set up an automatic backup with the onboard software, it does not direct the backup to the device automatically. If you do not know this, or do not pay attention, you could end up plopping a big backup to you PC harddrive.
