The Miami Hurricanes is about to complete 2009 on a winning record at 10 - 3. Another year of improvement over last year's 7 - 6 ending. The win against Duke last weekend showcased the stunning performance of power running back Damien Berry.

Thanks to the win against Duke last weekend. They have also gone up in the BCS Standings and Polls. These are the Miami Hurricanes Football News that we all like to read about after the Canes’ terrible outing against North Carolina two weeks ago.

Miami defeated Duke 34 – 16 last weekend. After which, two players, Jacorry Harris and Darryl Sharpton earned ACC honors for their performance in that match.

Harris played well indeed, with an injured right thumb and all. He had 348 yards and two touchdowns in the match. He even threw for a career high 28 passes in the first half alone.

Sharpton also had an inspiring game. The linebacker returned an interception for a touchdown. A 73 yard interception return on his last home game.

Noteworthy highlight of the match, however, is the performance of Damien Berry.

Buy Miami Hurricanes Apparel
Miami Hurricanes Damien Berry vs Duke 2009

Power running back Damien Berry stepped up to carry the ball 10 times on UM’s 15-play scoring drive to open the fourth quarter and capped it with a two-yard TD run. He ended the game with 76 yards on 16 carries. He even had the crowd chanting his name through out the third quarter and during that drive. Here is a player that probably should be given a little bit more playing time.

At the polls, Miami has risen up somewhat. In the AP poll, the Miami Hurricanes rose from No. 21 to No. 19. They also went up from No. 24 to No. 21 in the Coaches’ poll. The BCS Standings puts them at No. 17th from 20th. Miami is also ranked 14th in the nation by the BCS computers.

A 10 – 3 season is certainly possible for the Canes. Of course they will have to win all their remaining matches. No more bad outing in the likes of the North Caroline game. Miami is no longer in the race for any title this year. No National Championship. No ACC title. A bowl game is still in the cards, however. 10 – 3 is really not that bad. It’s an improvement over last year’s not so mediocre 7 – 6 season.

Next on the Miami Hurricane Football schedule is the University of South Florida. Miami travels to Tampa for the first time since 1974 to end the 2009 regular season schedule. This is just the second time the two teams meet. Miami will be playing for the first time at the Raymond James Stadium.

Go Canes!

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team reached another high this week. The Initial BCS Standings have The U back into the Top Ten at #10. An inspiring win over UCF and results from around the ACC puts the Canes back into the fore front of the ACC title race.

After 6 games, can we now say that the U is really back? Go Canes!

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team visited Central Florida during the weekend. They came back with another inspiring win. The 27 – 7 win also puts them back in the Top Ten of the BCS. The initial BCS standings have Miami at number 10.

The Canes are now 5 -1. The last time they achieved such a feat was in 2005. Miami is also now back in contention for the ACC title as Virginia Tech fell in the hands of Georgia Tech. Miami, Georgia Tech and V. Tech are now 2 – 1 in the ACC. As long as Miami wins all their upcoming conference matches, they have the ACC title within reach. The Hurricanes will be facing 5 ACC opponents in their upcoming matches, starting with Clemson (3 – 3, 2 – 2).

The Miami Defense showed true grit once again. In the third quarter, at the UM 2, the banged up Miami D held strong to prevent UCF from scoring. In the third play of the drive,

Safety Jared Campbell blitz through the left side of UCF’s line and hit Hodges throwing arm as he let the ball go. Linebacker Colin McCarthy intercepted the floater in stride and returned it to the UM 19.

Banged-up Miami Hurricanes’ defense shines in win

Nobody would have even dreamed that Miami would be where they are at the beginning of the season. Coming from a 7 – 6 season, to be looking at a possible ACC championship title. As a matter of fact, they may even be looking at the BCS Championship game.

A long shot it may be, but if things fall the right way for them, the long shot might just materialize. The 2009 college football season have so far been a bit topsy turvy. We’ve seen top ranked teams go down surprisingly to lower ranked opponents. As such, with half the season still to go, the Miami Hurricanes can certainly dream for the BCS Championship berth.

[media id=13]

Coach Shannon has a lot of work to do if he wants to see this Miami team challenge for the BCS. Once again, Miami has had to rely on their Defense to turn the match momentum for them. The Miami special team needs to get their act together. They have been very loose through out the season. Against UCF, the special team put the Defense in a very tight spot at the UM 2, when they botched up a snap over the head of punter, Matt Bosher.

Miami offensive line needs to provide better protection for their QB Jacory Harris. Against UCF, he was sacked for 6 times. He was rushed through out the match. It was simply amazing that he managed to avoid from throwing any interception. Some would probably say that Jacory Harris opted to take the sacks rather than throw interceptions.

Miami now have control over their destiny. They have to win all their remaining matches. If they can do that, the ACC title will be within their grasps. A BCS Championship would certainly be a dream come true for the team. As every one knows, dreams do come true..

Lets all supporters of the Miami Hurricanes put on some Miami Hurricanes Gear and bring the noise down to Miami’s home turf this coming weekend.

Go Canes!

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team wins another against Florida A&M. The 48 - 16 win puts them at (4 - 1) over all. The Canes are now back in the Top Ten Associate Press Polls at number 9.

Perhaps.. The U Really Is Back? Go Canes!

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team secured another convincing win. Miami played host to Florida A&M in Land Shark Stadium, the Canes (4 – 1) pulled of an outstanding performance which resulted in a 48 – 16 scoreline.

The U is back? The scoreline certainly seemed to indicate it. The Miami first team played for only one half of the match. The Orange and Green men had developed a 31 – 3 lead at half time. With the game already out of reach for FAMU, Miami sent in their second line after the break.

This FAMU match can be considered as a breather for the Miami Hurricanes Football Team. After playing four straight games against highly ranked opponents, the team could certainly use a relaxing match to cool off. At least that’s what everyone thought the Hurricanes would do.

Instead of playing it loosely, the Miami first team totally rolled over Florida A&M. They ran and passed to their hearts content. Jacory Harris were intercepted twice in the first half. Still, they managed to get 31 points on the scoreboard.

The win puts Miami standings currently at 4 – 1. The Canes are now ranked at number 9 in the Associate Press Polls. Back into the Top Ten after dropping out with the loss to Virginia Tech.

Up next for Miami is Central Florida, next weekend. After going through very tough season opening games against Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma, the resurgent Miami has a less torrid schedule ahead of them. Even so, they will be going up against highly respectable teams like Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia, North Carolina, Duke and South Florida.

Miami still has a chance at the National Championship title. All they need to do is win the ACC title for a shot at the National title. Really, no one besides the Hurricanes players themselves know if they are National Championship material. If the players think they want the National Champion title this year, it is there for them to take.

To many observers, This young team is still too young. Many are saying that Miami will present a more realistic National Champion challenge next year.

Do you think the Canes can do it this year? Go Canes!

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team bounces back to humble another ranked opponent. After last week's utterly disgusting performance, Miami silenced their critics with a solid performance against No. 8 Oklahoma.

Is The U back? Go Canes!

Miami Hurricanes Offensive Line vs Oklahoma

The Miami Hurricanes Football team proved their critics wrong. The Canes endured the toughest start of the college football season. After four straight games against Top 25 ranked teams, Canes came out with a 3 – 1 record.

2009 is probably the toughest season opener ever had by Miami or any other team in the NCAA. Hurricanes had to face 4 top ranked teams – Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma. Oklahoma being the highest ranked among the four.

Say it now: The ‘U’ is back
The Miami Hurricanes grew up in this four-game stretch, showing the talent, athleticism and composure to win three of four. They have been extremely impressive, considering nobody gave them much of a shot to be 3-1 — with one of those victories coming against Oklahoma. “No one gave us a chance,” said freshman Ray Ray Armstrong, the Seminole High standout who had his coming out party against the Sooners. “Everybody said we were going to go 0-4. The team was all we had.”

[media id=11]

After two great performances which brought them back into the Top 25, the once mighty Canes stumbled badly against Virginia Tech last week. The loss raised a lot of doubts on whether the U is really back this season. Miami thus, answered all their critics with a splendid performance against 8th ranked Oklahoma.

The Canes, in their Orange Hurricanes Football Jersey, did not start the match well. It seemed, at first, as if they were going to continue their bad form from last week. Offensively, they could not move the ball. Defensively, the Sooners was dominating them and causing costly turnovers early in the game.

Saturday surely didn’t start the way Miami wanted.
Harris threw interceptions on Miami’s first two drives, the first so easy for Oklahoma’s Dominique Franks to grab that it wasn’t even clear who was the intended receiver. Oklahoma turned that one into a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Cameron Kenney, and stretched the lead to 10-0 in the second quarter on Jimmy Stevens’ 21-yard field goal.

After a similarly bad performances in the first two initial drives and going down by 10 points, Miami pulled their act together. The Hurricanes scored a touchdown just before half time to bring the two teams closer at 10 – 7.

Something rather incredible happened.
The Miami defense began to dominate the high-powered Sooners, and if you want the highlight-reel stuff, start with two hits by freshman safety Ray Ray Armstrong that drew “OOOOH!” from the crowd — live and again on replay.

As for Harris, two quick picks might cause most young quarterbacks to rattle, especially one who had a tough time in that Blacksburg, Va., downpour a week earlier. But here was Harris’ response: an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham, 18-yard scoring strike to Dedrick Epps, then a 38-yard beauty into the end zone to Travis Benjamin. This against the nation’s top-ranked scoring defense.

Miami Hurricanes Mascot Sebastian's Smoking Entrance

Miami came out from the break with new vigor. They played with more intensity and purpose. Forcing a fumble which they recovered, the Canes went on to take a 14 – 10 lead from that turnover. They went further ahead to 21 – 10 when Jacorry Harris connected with Travis Benjamin to make it 21 – 10.

Is the U really back? The question that will be on the lips of almost every football pundits. A truly valid question. The season has surely been topsy turvy with ranked teams finding things harder than they thought.

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team, however, can now take a breather. They have gone through the hardest patch of their season and came out with flying colors. Up next for them is Florida A&M.

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team puts their stamp back into the Top Ten Polls with a thumping of No. 14 Georgia Tech. Miami showed that they mean business this year. Is this the making of an all Florida Championship Bowl?

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team is back in the Top 10 AP Polls after thumping Georgia Tech 33 – 17. Their first home game and against a higher ranking team. The Miami Hurricanes proved that they’re a force to be reckoned with in 2009 with 2 back to back wins.

If Georgia Tech, ranked 14th in the polls, thought they could blow past Miami as they did last year, they were dead wrong. This Hurricanes Football Team means business. The Canes totally stopped the Yellow Jacket’s running game. Georgia could only muster a 95 total yards of running game through out the match.

The win puts Miami at the top of the ACC Coastal Division Table. Having already played 2 games against ACC teams and winning them both. Miami is certainly looking like the best bet to capture the ACC title this time around.

[media id=9 width=320 height=240]

Beating 2 higher ranked teams have also put Miami back into the Top 10 of the AP Polls. The latest AP poll results has Miami at No.9. The Canes, however is ranked at No 13 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. That’s a pretty high jump, considering that the Hurricanes were not even ranked the week before.

It’s been quite a while since Miami enjoyed a Top Ten position in the polls. The last time Miami was in the Top 10 was in 2005. They were ranked 9th that year in both polls.

Will Miami continue their winning ways against ACC teams? Up next for the Canes is No. 11 Virginia Tech. Three ACC games in a row for Miami to start off this season. The game has been set to kickoff at 3.30pm, September 26th at Virginia.

Another ACC game against a ranked team. Another win here will certainly put the Canes higher up in the rankings. Are we looking at the Top 5 in the polls? Should we dream of an all Florida Championship Bowl game at the end of the season?

Perhaps it is still way too early to know. No harm in wishing it, right?

The season is only 3 weeks old now. The road to the Championship Bowl is still very far and winding. Lets just hope that this year’s Hurricanes can stand the distance. Nevertheless, this 2009 Miami Hurricanes Football Team is certainly becoming the talk of the town at the moment.

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team opens the 2009 season with a win at arch rival Florida State. The win was made possible by the Miami Defense. They withstood Florida at their own 2 yard line. Miami improved to 31-23 in this long rivalry between the Canes and Seminoles.

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team kicks off the 2009 season with a win against arch rival Florida State Seminoles. No Wide Right. No Wide Left. No such things. This time around, the Hurricane defense stood firm at their 2 yard line to prevent Seminoles from scoring in their last drive towards Miami endzone.

This highly exciting and intense game ended Miami 38 – 34 FSU. Both teams showed off their offensive prowess. 72 points were scored in total. 32 points in the fourth quarter alone. Both defenses was unable to stop the other team’s aerial assault. Both quarterbacks registered high numbers in the game.

Miami’s Jacory Harris gobled up 386 yards. That’s a record for a Canes QB in a first start against the Noles. Over at the other side, Seminole’s Christian Ponder also chewed up high yardage. He collected 294 yards in total. A career high in passing for him.

Miami – Seminoles rivalry has always attracted a lot of fanfare. This season’s opening clash is no different. They basically had everyone glued to the tube watching the game. Approximately 8 million viewers watched the game live on ESPN. A close second to the Miami – FSU match in Orange Bowl in 2006.

This win puts Miami up 31-23 against FSU in their rivalry which dates back to 1951. Hurricane Sports have a brief writeup on the history of the Miami-FSU rivalry. Miami is also the only team in the NCAA that have been able to shutout the FSU. They also have done it twice in the 33 years Bobby Bowden’s charge at FSU.

The win against the Seminoles have also put the Hurricanes into the Top 25 again. Miami is now ranked at #20 in the AP Polls, and #22 in the USA Today Coaches Polls. Next up for the Miami Hurricanes is #15 Georgia Tech at home in Dolphin Stadium.

The first home game for the Hurricanes will kick off at 7:30pm Eastern, September 17th 2009. Have you got your Miami Hurricanes Gear and tickets for the game?

The match against Georgia Tech will certainly test the Miami Hurricanes Football Team. Is the team prepared to challenge for the National Championship? Will we see an All-Florida National Championship game between Gators and Hurricanes? Lets just focus on the upcoming matches first, shall we?

While the win against FSU is always a morale booster, the National Championship is still too far away to think of at the moment. Win the next few games against higher ranked opponents and that #1 spot will soon be achieved.

Go CANES!

The Miami Hurricanes Football Team faces a tough start in 2009. The Canes go up against arch rival Florida State. Will Miami Hurricanes come out top this year?

Miami Hurricanes Sports

Miami Hurricanes Football Team is set to open the 2009 season with a trip to Tallahassee. Yes, fellow Canes fans. The season opener will be against them Seminoles. Come September 7, 2009 the Miami Hurricanes football team is making a trip up to pay a visit at our neighbor Florida State Seminoles.

Wide Right? Wide Left? That was then, some years ago when both Canes and Seminoles were the top ranked teams in the NCAA. Preseason rankings released yesterday puts FSU at number 18. The Canes are not even on the Top 25. Florida (Gators), however, is ranked number one.

Miami Hurricanes vs Florida State Seminoles

Last season, the Hurricanes managed a 7-5 season. The Miami Hurricanes Football team started with a bang by trashing Charleston Southern 52-7. In the next game, it was the Hurricanes turn to be trashed 3 – 26 by eventual 2008 National Champions – Florida Gators. The Canes was also beaten by the Noles 39-41 at home.

Let’s take a peek at the Miami Hurricanes’ last 6 seasons:

2008: Wins 7 – Lost 5.

2007: Wins 5 – Lost 7.

2006: Wins 6 – Lost 6.

2005: Wins 9 – Lost 2.

2004: Wins 8 – Lost 3.

2003: Wins 10 – Lost 2.

Will the Hurricanes perform better this year? Are they capable of producing a 10 – 2 season like in 2003? How about a 9 – 2 season?

Starting the season against FSU will be tough for the Miami Hurricanes Football Team. How did the Miami Team fare against Florida State the past 6 years?

2008: L 39-41 at Home.

2007: W 37-29 at FSU.

2006: L 10 -13 at Home. *

2005: L 7 – 10 at FSU. *

2004: W 16 – 10 at Home. *

2003: W 22 – 14 at FSU. *

Miami Hurricanes Gear

The years marked with * signify the years where the Miami Hurricanes Football Team went up against Florida State Seminoles in the season opener. At the moment, the past 6 years both teams are level at 3 wins a piece. They have all been close games indeed.

In about three weeks from now, the Hurricanes – Seminoles rivalry will continue to heat up the NCAA. Will the Canes rise to the occasion and come back as winners from Tallahassee?

The Miami Hurricanes football season starts in about three weeks. Have you got your Miami Hurricanes Gear and Merchandise ready for the season?

Do you think the Canes will perform even better than last year in the NCAA league? Will they be challenging for the BCS National Champions title?

Go Canes!!!

The 2008 NCAA Football Kicks-Off with a bang for the Miami Hurricanes Football Team 2008 roster. The Canes whipped up a starling display of offensive vigor. They basically rolled over their opponent in this 52-7 trashing of Charleston Southern University Buccaneers.

The Canes played their hearts out in their first ever home match in their new home ground – The Dolphins Stadium. True to the label of being the number 1 signing class of 2008, the new faces in the Canes lineup proved their mettle with outstanding performances in their opening match.

Miami took to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Scoring in all their three possessions. They collected a massive 172 total offensive yards. 84 yards from passing and 88 more from the rushing game. The Bucs, on the other hand, managed only a28 total offensive yards in the first quarter. All their drives ended in punts.

The Hurricanes took their feet off the pedal in the second half. The team could only muster 72 yards of total offense. They scored once. They also fumbled once to match the Bucs in turnovers. The Buccaneers, once again failed to make much in the second quarter. They only made a total of 15 yards.

At the breather, Miami led CSU by a hefty 28-0 scoreline.

After the break, the Canes continued business as usual. They scored in their first possession of the second half. G. Cooper scrambled and whizzed past everyone off a CSU punt to score his first punt return TD. CSU tried hard to level things on the field. They managed to score their only TD of the match in their third possession of the quarter. UM, however, scored their second of the quarter in their next possession to make it a 42-7 scoreline. Both teams were pretty much level in terms of yardage in the third.

Miami turned stepped on the pedal a little bit more in the fourth. They scored on both their possessions. A field goal in their first possession, and a TD in the second. Chalking up a total of 96 yards. Much of it on the ground from running plays to eat up the clock. The Miami D also stood up hard to allow the Bucs only 12 total yards of offensive plays. The Bucs had -4 yards passing and only 1 first downs in the final quarter.

At the end of the game, Miami totally outmatched their opponents in terms of yardage with a 416-126 total yards gained. Miami gained a lot of impressive numbers in this opening match. The 21 point first quarter score is their highest in a period since 2006. It was the Canes’ highest scoring game. Matching their 52-7 win over Duke in 2005.

It has to be noted, though, the Buccaneers really is not a ranked team. They have only had 2 winning seasons in their history. Thus, the win does not carry a lot of weight in terms of rankings. The Hurricanes football team will face their true test in next week’s match. They are paying a visit to Florida who is currently ranked at No 5.

How will the once mighty Hurricanes fare against Florida? Will the fresh new Miami team be able to stand the pressure of playing against a highly ranked team? Will the new faces crumble under pressure?

We shall see what happens come next weekend. Stay up to date all you Miami fans.

Go Canes!!

The Miami Hurricanes Football 2008 season is coming near. A new beginning to Canes Football. The Canes welcome a new home ground in 2008. They’ve moved from Orange Bowl into the Dolphin Stadium. The Virginia match, last year, was the farewell to Orange Bowl performance. Starting at home in 2008, their first match will be against Charleston Southern. This season opener is scheduled on August 28th, 2008.

How will the once dominant Miami Hurricanes Football program fare in 2008?

Are we to see new faces in the starting line-up? Will the upcoming 08 Class recruits see action?

How long will it take Randy Shannon to bring the Hurricanes back as one of the great football entity in NCAA?

Will they end up just like the 2007 Miami Football Season?

A new season brings in new recruits into the program. This year’s recruits have been touted as one of the best recruitment class in Miami. Is it just hype? We will have to let them prove themselves on the field where it matters. Shandel Richardson has a series of interviews with the 2008 recruits in his UM Hurricanes | Sun Sentinel Blogs. Among those he interviewed include Tommy Streeter, Joe Wylie, and Antonio Harper.

Will they rise up to the challenge and be among those who have made their names into the Tales from Miami Hurricanes Sideline?

Last year, Sports Reviews And Updates managed to only cover one match through out the entire 2007 season. I plan to do a little bit better this time around, if possible. The thing is, we don’t get a lot of college football coverage over on this side of the planet. Looks like I will have to rely on coverage over the internet.

Any of you have any tips on where I can get Canes match coverage on the internet? Of course, I’d prefer it to be as cheap as possible. Free would be good. Hahaha. Wonder if it’s covered in any of the stations within TVUPlayer? Is TVUPlayer still available? Holler me if you’ve got good news eh…

Both NFL and NCAA teams are not playing up to their usual mark. I’m talking about the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Hurricanes here. The Dolphins have yet to win a single game in the NFL. The Hurricanes, at the same time, completed the season with a record of 5-7, 2-6 and failed to qualify for a bowl game.

The Dolphins is currently the only team in the NFL without a win. This is probably their worst season in terms of getting their first win in the league. I wonder if any team has ever finished the season without a win in the NFL. I sure hope they are not going to be the first to perform such a feat. That will surely be the total opposite of the 1972 team result (14-0), the perfect season.

A seasoned observer, however, noted that there is still hope for this Dolphin team. I can’t really say much about the team’s performance. I have to admit, this year, I’ve yet to see any of the Dolphins game. As a matter of fact, I haven’t actually been following the league this year. Somehow, for reasons I’m not sure of, I decided to take a look at how the Dolphins are performing in the league today. Hence this coverage of the Dolphins in here today.

Check out the current NFL standings. Them Phins is at the bottom of the league table. Sad…

How about them Hurricanes? They are not having a good year either. Failing to qualify for a bowl game for the first time in say about 10 years? They fared a little bit better last season. The good thing about this season for the Canes is probably their win against Florida State.

They also bid farewell to the Orange Bowl as the home turf. The match against Virginia is the last game the Canes will ever play inside Orange Bowl. Come next year, the hurricanes will call the Dolphin stadium their home ground. Will the new home turf bring about a new championship ring to the Canes? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Go Canes!!! I hope I get to cover more of next season’s matches.
