Works great–once you downgrade the firmware!!!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Just picked one up at Fry’s Electronics in Oregon. Two different sales reps tried to talk me out of it, saying it was a piece of junk and not worth the $25 that Fry’s was charging (refurbed units).
I went ahead anyway, and spent several hours of frustration with the new “feature” called WiFi Protected Setup. What a royal pain. All I wanted was a generic router. Instead, I got a machine that insisted on me giving it a “device ownership password.”
I was about to box it back up to return to Fry’s (gee, I had wondered why they had so many refurb units) when I accidentally stumbled upon a blog. The writer said it was all due to the new “improved” firmware (1.0.05). If I went back to an older firmware (1.0.02), the box behaved normally. He was right. Thing works great now.
Easy setup, super fast, but VPN to work doesn’t work
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve used linksys products for a very long time and have been pleased with the results. I decided to upgrade my “G” router to a “N” to get the faster throughput to access my network storage devices (music and pictures). Initially, I was please with the router. Setup through the web interface worked like the previous versions (WPA and Wireless Filtering work the same). It was twice as fast as my “G” router. Things couldn’t be better…
Then my wife started having trouble accessing her work network via VPN. I can tell you it was the router. If she connected directly to the cable modem, all her problems went away. If you look on Linksys’s web forums, you will see that there are several discussions about VPN and this router.
My recommendation… If you want quick access to home network devices (printers and hard drives) and the Internet, this works. If you access work from home via VPN, check to make sure this router will work for you.
Avoid this, very poor performance

Bought this about a year ago and we’ve had nothing but problems for the last year. Often we couldn’t get a connection, then when we finally got one, often the connection was dropped. Often had to use the wired connection because I couldn’t get the wireless to work. We had particular problems if we tried to use 2 computers at the same time. After a year of this, we finally gave up and I bought a Belkin 802.3. The Belkin works like a champ. Much higher speed and much more reliable. My biggest regret is that I put up with the Linksys for as long as I did.
Sucks! Don’t use this router!!!

Sometimes, we cannot find the signal!!!
Other neighbors’ signals are more stronger than ours!!!
Sometimes, even we can find the signal, we cannot connect with the router.
I don’t know why.
I was a junior IT techinician. I believe this router is the worst router I have ever seen.
Don’t buy it!
I believe Linksys was good. But after they merge with Cisco, they sucks!
I will buy an old blue one.
Don’t use this!!!
If you buy this, you will definitely regret!
Product seems good; customer support extremely poor!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This product seems to do what I wanted; wireless for my netbook and access for it to the desktop, including printing. BUT…it took parts of three days to set it up …telephone support from Linksys was extremely poor! The Rep said she had to go to a quieter place and told me to wait by the phone, which I did, and she never called back. I tried the online chat help and they had no suggestions. A new setup program is needed to be downloaded that the tech never mentioned. The self help files online helped, in addition to checking a lot of permissions, security programs, and such on your own. If you know how, have the time to do it, or someone to help, great! If not, don’t count on customer support.
Hint: be sure you use the IP address and access the setup on your wireless router to change the security settings…or anyone that knows anything will have access to your computer.
