Netscape Browser No More

By kodeexii • Jan 9th, 2008 •

Yes, the Netscape Browser is going off the grid. Official support for the browser stops come February 1st 2008. That’s just a few weeks from today. What does this affect everyone? Well, if you are not one of those who uses the browser, nothing. If you are among the handful that uses it, you can still use the browser. Just remember that no official support is available if you face problems using it.

I don’t use Netscape. I used it once. Back then before the Firefox came into the world. When Firefox came, it was leaner and faster than Netscape. Thus, it became my choice of browser. What about IE? Well, I never did like IE. Never knew why either.

It’s kind of sad, really, to see one of the pioneer browser to just go like that. I guess, AOL  (the current owner of Netscape) just could not sustain the resources required to maintain the development of Netscape. I really have no idea whatsoever to what Netscape’s current features are. They have been somewhat off my radar since Firefox went off Beta.

Anyway, I think I’ll go and download a copy of the current version of Netscape later tonight. Just for keepsake. Maybe I’ll install it in my PC and have a go at it for a while.

Let’s all go over and download it. Who knows.. it may become a collector’s item in the future.
